Project feature: @homeonthetrees
Some decisions are made late in a project. Others are there from the very beginning.
For this home extension, the rooflight was always part of the plan. From the earliest stages of design, the intention was clear: bring daylight deep into the space and keep the architecture calm, modern and uncluttered.
The question was never whether to include a rooflight, but which type would best suit the vision.
From lantern to frameless
During planning, the choice came down to a traditional roof lantern or a flat rooflight. Very quickly, the direction became clear.
A fixed, frameless rooflight offered exactly what this space needed: clean lines, uninterrupted sky views and strong thermal performance. The aim was not to add a feature that competed with the interior, but one that quietly framed it.
With a flat, frameless design, the ceiling remains visually calm and the light feels natural rather than imposed.

Why a fixed, frameless rooflight?
The appeal was simple and practical.
Maximising natural light was the priority, especially over the dining table where the family naturally gathers. The frameless design removes visual obstructions, allowing the sky itself to become the backdrop.
Thermal performance was just as important. A strong U-value helps reduce heat loss while maintaining comfort year-round. The result is a rooflight that feels modern and architectural, without sacrificing everyday usability.
There is also a softer benefit. The rooflight has become something the whole family enjoys — particularly the children, who love watching the clouds drift past overhead.
Choosing Cambridge Skylights
Confidence came from research.
Reviews on the Cambridge Skylights website, alongside independent platforms such as Trustpilot, helped build reassurance. But beyond specifications, it was the sense of care and pride behind the brand that stood out.
Understanding how the company started, and seeing a consistent focus on product quality and detail across the website and social channels, made the decision feel considered rather than rushed.

The difference it’s made
Even on the dullest days, the impact is immediate.
The light draws people into the space naturally, making it the most used area of the home. Positioned above the dining table, the rooflight has become the defining feature — the element everyone comments on as soon as they walk in.
It doesn’t dominate the room, but it anchors it.
The moment it all clicked
There was one unmistakable moment.
As soon as the temporary plastic sheeting — a well-intentioned but unreliable attempt at keeping the space watertight — was removed and the rooflight installed, the space transformed instantly.
Light flooded in, and the decision felt validated straight away. Three years on, that feeling hasn’t changed.
Would we recommend Cambridge Skylights?
Yes.
From a product-to-price perspective, the value for money stood out. Extensive research into U-values and comparable products showed that the same level of quality wasn’t available elsewhere at this price point.
Three years after installation, the rooflight still performs exactly as expected — and continues to define the space.
