Not every roof enjoys direct sun.
For this kitchen diner extension, the majority of the roof sat on the north side of the house. Natural light from above would never be harsh or dramatic — but it could be generous, consistent and beautifully diffused.
That was the goal: introduce indirect daylight to lift the space and prevent the new extension from feeling flat or shaded.
The result is a kitchen that feels bright every day of the year.

Why a fixed, frameless rooflight?
Ventilation was already well catered for. The extension incorporated eight opening sash windows, so airflow was not a concern.
What was required was simplicity — a rooflight that would be reliable, low maintenance and visually clean.
A fixed, frameless design provided exactly that. Clean lines without visual weight. No unnecessary mechanisms. Just uninterrupted glazing bringing light down into the room.
The detailing integrates comfortably within the ceiling, allowing the architecture to remain calm and cohesive.

Choosing Cambridge Skylights
Confidence came through support.
Clear online installation guidance provided reassurance before ordering, and telephone advice helped confirm specification and sizing. Combined with strong online reviews, the process felt straightforward and well-supported.
For both client and trades, clarity matters.

Living with the rooflight
The rooflight has now been installed for over twelve months — long enough to understand how it performs across the seasons.
Even without direct southern exposure, it delivers beautiful, balanced light throughout the day.
But the moment it truly revealed its impact came in spring.
As the days lengthened and the sun climbed higher, blue skies became visible overhead. The room shifted subtly — not through glare, but through clarity. Light felt cleaner. Brighter. More uplifting.
It changed the atmosphere of the space.

Would they recommend Cambridge Skylights?
Definitely.
Great service. A strong product. Straightforward installation — the joiners were particularly impressed with the ease of fitting.
