When planning a mansard loft conversion, the goal was simple: bring more natural light into newly created spaces that would otherwise feel enclosed.
From the outset, the homeowners knew that rooflights would play an important role. Two were carefully positioned within the new roof structure — one above the stairwell and another above a compact kitchenette area — ensuring daylight could travel through the upper level of the home.
Without them, these areas could easily have felt dark or confined.
Instead, they now feel open, bright and connected to the sky above.

Why rooflights were essential
Loft conversions often introduce beautiful new living areas, but they can also create deeper internal zones where daylight struggles to reach.
By adding rooflights directly above circulation spaces and functional areas, the design allows natural light to cascade down through the stairwell and into the kitchenette.
The result is a loft level that feels calm, bright and welcoming throughout the day.
Even small spaces benefit dramatically when daylight enters from above.

Why a fixed, frameless rooflight?
For this project, aesthetics were just as important as performance.
The homeowners were drawn to the minimalist look of frameless rooflights, where the glazing appears as a clean opening to the sky rather than a traditional window with heavy frames.
The frameless design maximises visible glass and allows more natural light to enter the room.
It also creates a very refined ceiling detail, where the rooflight feels integrated into the architecture rather than added to it.
An additional feature the homeowners appreciated was the ability to incorporate flush LED strip lighting into the plasterboard reveals, creating a subtle architectural glow around the opening once evening arrives.
Why Cambridge Skylights?
Having previously installed a frameless rooflight in their kitchen extension, the homeowners already knew the benefits these designs can bring.
When researching suppliers for the loft conversion, Cambridge Skylights stood out for several reasons:
• Elegant frameless design
• Competitive pricing
• Strong customer reviews
• Confidence in the product quality
That combination made the decision straightforward.

The result
Now complete, the rooflights dramatically enhance the new loft level.
The stairwell is filled with natural light from above, making the vertical space feel far more open. The kitchenette area also benefits from a bright, airy atmosphere that would not have been possible without overhead glazing.
What were once enclosed areas within the roof structure now feel spacious and connected to the outdoors.
Sometimes the simplest architectural decisions have the greatest impact.
And in this loft conversion, light was the key element that transformed the space.
